How one brand got 800+ mentions and 1.1K cited pages
iPlum achieved 812 mentions across multiple AI engines with 1.1K cited pages. Monthly organic traffic grew from 10,000 to 55,000 over 14 months.
My strategy focused on building topical authority, securing third-party mentions, optimizing technical SEO, and writing content structured for AI extraction.

The challenge
Existing content, but little progress toward AI visibility
iPlum was publishing content to grow its search presence and reach prospective customers. When I joined, its website attracted about 10,000 organic visits per month.
However, the brand had little to no presence in AI answers and overviews. The company wanted to appear in AI answers when customers asked for recommendations on a HIPAA-compliant phone system. It also wanted to be cited as a compliant phone app for texting and calling for lawyers and finance professionals.
iPlum serves healthcare and financial professionals with distinct communication needs. And these customers ask specific questions about privacy, compliance, and how to manage everyday calls and messages.
So, while the company already had a content library to build on, it also had an opportunity to build topical authority in secure business communication. iPlum needed content tailored to the privacy and compliance needs of healthcare, legal, and financial professionals.
It also needed to improve technical SEO and pursue third-party mentions.
The challenge involved answering several questions:
- Topical authority: Did the content answer related customer questions in sufficient depth?
- Product relevance: Did articles explain how iPlum’s features applied to specific professions and situations?
- External credibility: Did relevant third-party websites mention the brand?
- Technical access: Could search engines discover and index the important pages?
- Content structure: Could readers and AI systems identify useful answers within those pages?
The goal was to make iPlum part of the conversation when prospective customers researched their options through AI search.
Achieving that required a coordinated plan for what to publish, which existing pages to improve, and where to build the brand’s presence outside its own website.
The solution
Build AI visibility from the ground up
I began with an AI visibility audit to assess iPlum’s presence in answers to relevant buyer questions. The findings informed a strategy for improving the website’s content, technical foundations, and external brand mentions.
I focused on the following areas:
- Technical access: I worked on technical SEO so search engines could discover, access, and index important pages. The objective was to make iPlum’s product and industry information accessible and easy to retrieve.
- Listicles and comparison articles: I created 50+ listicles targeting searches such as “best HIPAA-compliant phone apps for therapists” and “iPlum vs competitor”.
I researched the alternatives and compared features against specific customer needs. The goal was to rank for relevant searches and give AI engines comparison content to reference when answering buyer questions.
- Industry-specific content: I developed articles around the communication needs of healthcare, legal, and financial professionals. Topics ranged from patient texting and attorney privacy to call recording and message archiving for financial advisors.
These articles expanded iPlum’s content on secure business communication, providing detailed explanations for distinct customer needs.
- Answers structured for extraction: I wrote sections around specific buyer questions and placed the answer before the longer explanation. These included comparison tables, feature lists, and concise definitions, making information easier to identify.
I also named the relevant product, profession, and use case so individual passages made sense when read separately.
- Internal linking: I added relevant links between educational articles, comparison pages, and product information. A reader researching patient texting could move to details about secure messaging.
Likewise, an advisor researching communication records could find information about archiving. The links also gave search engines routes to related pages.
- Third-party mentions: I pursued mentions on relevant external websites, particularly publications serving iPlum’s target industries.
- These mentions gave AI search engines external references about iPlum’s services and their relevance to specific professions, providing additional context for recommendations about business phone solutions.
iPlum now appears multiple times in AI answers to questions about HIPAA-compliant communication for healthcare providers.
It is also frequently mentioned in recommendations for confidential client communication for lawyers, ethical call recording for attorneys, and text archiving for financial professionals.
The results
The numbers
- 812 AI search mentions
- 1.1K cited pages
- 10,000 to 55,000 monthly organic visits over 14 months.
- 450% organic traffic growth, marketing 5.5x growth
- AI visibility for tracked buyer prompts such as “Which is the best HIPAA-compliant phone app for therapists?”
Honest caveats
Healthcare is a highly regulated industry. The founder reviewed each asset I created for iPlum for accuracy.
It took around 4 months from creating the AI visibility strategy to seeing the first results.
We implemented the AI visibility plan alongside traditional SEO.
The AI visibility numbers fluctuate from time to time. AI models change their answers and sources, and different questions produce different recommendations. The bottom line, however, is that iPlum is now steadily appearing in AI answers for relevant buyer questions and has a long-term strategy to grow that visibility.
